An upcoming CBeebies series blending live-action performances (featuring Andy and Jen) with entirely CG environments and dinosaurs, broadcasting from March 16th.
Alongside an excellent team, I served as the Technical Director over nearly two years, managing the pipeline from early development through to final delivery. My responsibilities included mentoring junior artists, guiding the team through production challenges, and day-to-day problem-solving which often spanned all the way down to addressing studio hardware bottlenecks.
We built the show using a combination of Maya, Blender, Substance, and Unreal Engine. Working heavily in Unreal, I also liaised closely with Epic Games, providing feedback and troubleshooting workflows as an early adopter of this real-time technology for broadcast animation.
I was heavily hands-on across much of the show's production, taking on a broad range of responsibilities:
- Pre-vis & Blocking: Interpreting scripts into early layout blocking prior to live-action shoots
- Rigging in both Maya and Unreal Engine
- XGen grooming prepared for Unreal Engine (e.g., dinosaur feathers)
- Digidouble creation
- Set design
- Lighting & Rendering
