This year I have been working on a tool set for creating vector styled animations in Maya, the likes of which that are normally reserved for an Illustrator - After Effects Pipeline.
It is a rig that can be changed for usage in creating characters easily for simple animations - through randomising clothes and body shape.
This is great for me as it allows me to continue to work within my usual pipeline while going beyond the more traditional 2D work.
You keep the very nice aesthetic of these kinds of animations while carrying over the versatility of 3D.
A single rig can be set up to be used in a variety of ways, from the side or isometric, and interact with other characters and props in ways that might be difficult or limited in 2D methods.
